Can someone please tell me how to get Visual Studio 2012 to recognize that .NET Framework 4.0 and 4.5 are installed?

It seems that Microsoft is about 4 centuries away from creating self-healing software. I recently had to un-install .NET Framework 4.5 and 4.0. I then re-installed .NET Framework 4.0 and 4.5 in succession.

Trying to launch Visual Studio 2012 without .NET Framework 4.0 and 4.5 installed resulted in absolutely nothing happening other than a flash of the Visual Studio 2012 logo screen if I recall correctly. This is a travesty for a multi-billion dollar corporation to write software that is so oblivious to the reasons it can't get it's ass off the ground. "Hmmm, I wonder why I can't load up for the user? What could it be? If I knew I could post a message telling the user the problem but that would be too easy."

How about this Microsoft developer team. How about you actually check that the proper .NET Frameworks are installed when Visual Studio 2012 is launched. Sound like a good idea? I think so.

Good thing I already knew what the problem was. Even after re-installing both 4.0 and 4.5 .NET Frameworks Visual Studio appears to have been damaged beyond repair. It won't allow me to target either of the freshly installed frameworks. Nor does it show me most of the templates for creating a new project, such as ASP.Net MVC 4 which is the one I am specifically working with.

So, instead of a self-healing software product which could easily detect some of these problems. I am guessing I get to spend the next 3-4 days formatting my hard drive and re-installing everything fresh.

I can't install programs that have Framework inside

Hello support,

I am running Windows 7 64 bits actually. Last year, I was using Vista 32bits.

However, since I changed, I keep on having problems with Framework.

The Framework does work in my OS. The problem is that the one working is the 4 version, while the 3.5.1 integrated in 7, IS installed, but invisible.

For example, when trying to install AutoCAD or Sound Forge Pro, that do include in their setups Framework 2.0, I keep on getting errors because ''Microsoft cound't install Framework 2.0''.

How do I fix this? The setups seem not to ''see'' that I do have Framework 3.5.1. So they keep on asking for the installation of Framework 2.0, failing since I am running Win 7. Please, help me? I can't install a lot of programs due to this..

I have already turned on all the sub features in the Control Panel.

Problem with getting PHP to instantiate .NET object

$

I'm trying to use the SerialPort class via PHP's DOTNET function thus:

$serial = new DOTNET('System', 'System.IO.Ports.SerialPort');

This says:

PHP Fatal error:  Uncaught exception 'com_exception' with message 'Failed to instantiate .Net object [CreateInstance] [0x80070002] The system cannot find the file specified.

It seems that PHP does not work with .NET 4 but I also have 2.0, 3.0 and 3.5 installed on my windows 7 64-bit system, as shown bythis dotnet verifier log file

PHP manual says that I have to use a fully qualified class name with the DOTNET function which they illustrate thusly:

$full_assembly_string = 'System.Windows.Forms, Version=2.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=a8425bc35256e463';
$full_class_name = 'System.Windows.Forms.Form';
$form = new DOTNET($full_assembly_string, $full_class_name);

My problem is that, knowing nothing about .NET, I don't know what the fully qualified class name for System.IO.Ports.SerialPort should be in its .NET 2.0 form. Can anyone help with that?

BTW: I'm using PHP 5.3.6 as a 32-bit application and as a command line utility rather than part of a web server.

.Net setup using Visual Basic

Hello,

Does anyone know if there are any tutorials explaining .Net and how it can be used with Visual Basic?

I am blind and have spent at least two hours trying to figure what to do after installing .Net  It appears, if I am understanding it, that you have to use an existing environment, but I may be wrong on this.

Any help appreciated.

Best!

CAN NOT INSTALL NET.Framework 4.0 PLEASE HELP!!! (I've tried everything)

Hi

I REALLY need help installing NET.Framework on my computer! This is when the Problem started:

I already had microsoft NET.Framework installed on my computer, however every time I would launch the game 'Terraria' through steam, it would prompt me to install NET. Framework again! So I looked it up online and decided I would uninstall all the versions of NET. Framework on my computer (of which there was an old version, and version 4.0) and then re-install it, to fix the problem. HOWEVER, when I went to re-install it (NET.Framework), it failed with the error code: (0x00000BC9), and told me to reboot my system to roll back changes made. So I restarted my computer and tried again, and it failed with the same message and error code. So next I used the clean-up tool for NET.Framework, followed the instructions it gave me and tried again, and of-course it failed again, then told me the tool was unable to resolve the issue and it had sent the log files to microsoft for analysis (no help whatsoever).

I have searched the web for help numerous times, but found nothing other than more people saying to reboot my system (exactly what the install window says). And I have shut-down/Restarted my computer numerous times, with no impact made.

Here are my computer's OS details:

-Windows 7 64-bit (Home Premium)

-Service Pack 1

And here is the full Installation log for NET.Framework 4.0:

OS Version = 6.1.7601, Platform 2, Service Pack 1
OS Description = Windows 7 - x64 Home Premium Edition Service Pack 1
CommandLine = C:\6c2e5283a3514c868b8b8e151f\\Setup.exe /x86 /x64 /ia64 /web

Operation: Installing
Package Name = Microsoft .NET Framework 4 Setup
Package Version = 4.0.30319

Final Result: Installation failed with error code: (0x00000BC9), "The requested operation failed. A system reboot is required to roll back changes made. " (Elapsed time: 0 00:01:34).

PLEASE HELP!!!

Thanks

.NET Framework Installation / Operation Issues (i.e. Perpetual CLR20r3 Error)

$

Hey guys, I figured this might be the place to get relevant help from people who actually know what they're talking about. I've spent a good portion of yesterday and today trying to bend .NET to my will (I just want it to work!) and it's being a nuisance.

I'm getting a perpetual CLR20r3 error on several programs. I've done just about everything I could find on Google; I'll list what I've done later. Here is the list of programs that I am having issues with, complete with what I know about them. I'm sure there are more but these are the 4 I've encountered thus far. These are all things that have worked in the past. I've had this computer for roughly a year and used all of these things repeatedly. Well, except the IAStorIcon thing... but it didn't fail immediately upon arriving at my desktop after booting in the past, either...

1. Facebook Messenger - The desktop chat app - available from Facebook directly with a quick Google search. This was the first program I noticed having a problem. It's only really an annoyance... not being able to directly connect to chat would be a Godsend if I were still at school. Productivity would rise! Still, this should work and it's not, which is annoying. This fails upon arrival at my desktop after a boot, since it's configured to come on automatically. Manually starting it afterwards yields the same error.

2. IAStorIcon.exe - Apparently some sort of Intel thing which manages the tray icon for the rapid restore utility. Doesn't seem overly important but some of those sites - "scare" sites or "pretending to know about computers" sites claim that it's VERY IMPORTANT. I don't really care about this to be honest. The fact it has icon in the name reveals, in my opinion, that it's probably not overly important. But hey, I could be wrong. This fails upon arrival at my desktop after a boot as well. I haven't tried manually restarting it.

3. Settings.exe - While it has a very generic name, this is a settings utility for a mod called Masterwork for the game Dwarf Fortress. I know this works for others because 1) my friend was on Skype with me as we were both getting ready to dig around in the settings and it worked for him and 2) the Masterwork Dwarf Fortress subforum is not bursting with complaints about Settings.exe not working. This is really the reason I'm here, since I posted over on the MDF subforum and got keyed in on .NET being a commonality between FB messenger and this.

4. LazyNewbPack.exe - A settings utility similar to the above for a similar thing (but designed for total noobs or lazy people, such as me). Didn't notice this until I hit the snag with the above .exe and decided to give the LNP .exe a shot and encountered the same issue. I don't care much about this one, either. More concerned about the above settings utility.

So as you can see, there are different levels of caring about each of these things, but I believe each is refusing to work as part of an overarching problem.

What I've tried so far, from recommendations on the MDF forum (which essentially amounted to "download .NET otherwise I don't know") and what I've found on Google:

*Uninstalling and reinstalling .NET ... I've tried doing 4.5 exclusively, 4.0 exclusively, 4.0 followed by 4.5 ... none of it worked. I also restarted between each step. So uninstalled, restarted, downloaded/installed .NET, restarted, tried programs... none worked. I used the Internet-connected version that installed the correct .NET for my OS each time (it appears to have installed both the x86 and x64 versions, but never prompted me if I wanted both... I don't see this as being an issue, but maybe?).

*Some console command stuff. I don't recall exactly what it was but it was a pretty commonly referred to string of things to do. It involved something like 8 individual lines of commands (hitting enter each time). As far as I can tell, it did absolutely nothing. I will track down and provide the exact commands if you guys want them.

*A clean boot of the uninstall/reinstall thing. Nothing but Microsoft ("necessary") stuff running per Microsoft's own instructions on the issue (as well as having done it before for other things).

*Installation verification through netfx_setupverifier.exe which I got from Aaron Stebner here: http://blogs.msdn.com/b/astebner/archive/2008/10/13/8999004.aspx

*.NET cleanup tool that I also got from Aaron Stebner on the same site as the verifier. I tried the uninstall/reinstall bit including the cleanup tool AND a clean boot (all that stuff at once) and still no dice.

*This is probably bad but I downloaded CCleaner and had it cull the registry of whatever it thought needed to be removed. It did remove some .NET stuff but considering that stopped working a while ago anyways, I didn't really feel too bad about that. I've backed up every change to the registry so if I absolutely need to I can restore it all.

*Yes, I tried redownloading and reinstalling the programs in question. At least the FB messenger and the Settings.exe as part of Masterwork Dwarf Fortress (I downloaded both FB and MDF 3-5 times each and it changed nothing).

So my guess is something is borked up internally big-time (registry? malware? OS corruption?!) or I'm doing something REALLY SIMPLE incorrectly and it's causing everything to not work.

Now here's the fun bit of added information: there's been a lot of storms here in IL this summer, some of which have been accompanied by power outages and surges. I don't think we've had any damaging surges (although our old DVD player did get fried through a surge protector) but there was one or two evenings where power would flicker repeatedly and then go off for 1-3 hours. I don't recall when exactly the FB Messenger stopped working (which is the first program I noticed having issues) but it seems to me that it miiight have been around the time of our first power outage. So the sudden loss of power while the computer was in operation (I rarely if ever actually shut this thing down) may or may not have come in to play here. Just figured I'd include it to make this initial post as complete as possible.

For giggles, here are the provided error logs from the dropdown of each of the 4 programs:

Not sure where IAStorIcon.exe is to manually reproduce the error report and I'm not keen on restarting my PC to get it to pop up after typing this whole thing out. Feel free to ask for it if you really want it.

Something I have not tried is a virus scan. I'm about to turn Malwarebytes loose as we speak. I'll report back if that finds anything and/or if it fixes my issue.

If you need more in-depth stuff, you'll need to instruct me on how to acquire that information for you.

Sorry for the essay, I hope this is an appropriate place for this sort of question, and thanks in advance for you guys' time and any suggestions/solutions you may have. :)

I recently installed a new CPU and had to flash update my BIOS, resulting in a new install of Windows 8. Now, I can't get .net 3.5 to install correctly at at all. I've tried enabling it via the control panel (windows features on and off), I've tried direct download links given to me by Microsoft Help Center, and I've tried via command prompt. Hi,

I am getting some errors in the output window I noticed.  Here are a couple of them:

Loaded 'C:\Windows\SysWOW64\cryptsp.dll', Cannot find or open the PDB file
Loaded 'C:\Windows\SysWOW64\rsaenh.dll', Cannot find or open the PDB file

Loaded 'C:\Windows\SysWOW64\RpcRtRemote.dll', Cannot find or open the PDB file

Not sure what they mean.

Hello, i have been trying to fix my Framework for several months now. Every time i go to install it, it completes the download but wont do anything once it goes to the install portion. I have tried uninstalling it and re-installing it. I have even tried to run the Framework 4 repair tool. I have the file/logs that it left with the problem diagnosis of whatever.

Here is the link: http://www.mediafire.com/download/ttv35d961f6ucmw/FixDotNet20130806050122166.cab

Thanks for the help I've been wanting to play terraria with my friends for months now and this have kept me from doing it.

We are working in a .NET Framework 2.0 project using in Visual Studio 2010. Also we are using Report Viewer version 9.0. We are getting the compilation error while building the solution to change the Target Framework. But when we are using Report Viewer 8.0, it is building fine and we didnt find any issues. But the problem is, the production version is 9.0 and when we move the code from dev to prod with v8.0, we have version conflicts in prod. Kindly suggest to solve this issue.

And I still want to know if it works with VS2012 or VS2010 (if downloadable)

My techie-son "set-up" my netbook, and did Updates and somehow the MS 1.1 Net.Framework was Corrupted, laptop has Never worked right. Now, it's not accepting a Security Update, citing a 504 Error, 1.1 blah blah...so I Removed it...

I installed a 3.0, then a 4 net.framwork...I Screwed Up? What do I do? WinXP...

I don't know what I am doing, I am old-school.  I am so sick of this computer, my son is not in this town anymore, I can't replace this computer. It was going to be a great laptop for an arthritis-ridden woman, like me.

Hi,

Is anyone aware if the .NET tilde dos vulnerability has been fixed for .NET Framework 3.5 SP1? The "official" advisory only refers to 3.5 but I've seen nothing anywhere to indicate that it would have been fixed in SP1. Would that one be secure or do I still have to worry?
