Microsoft .NET Framework 4 fails to install "compatibility mode" error

$

I have a server that is not allowing the install of .NET 4 on a Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 x64 with all latest updates installed.

The .NET logs are indicating that it is a Windows XP x64 for some reason...

Installing with admin rights etc. At end of install I get "Blocking issues: Setup cannot run in compatibility mode. For more information, see...etc"

Have tried all version of the installer and get the same result. Any ideas?

Parts from .NET log file below:

IIS

Good day

I am using IIS with PHP and I would like to only give my website write permissions, without giving to all "IUsr" write permissions. I have already added the AppPool and give it full permission but I still get an error "Unable to open file!". Is this possible to give only the code access to manipulate text files or is their a way I can block other users from modifying text files.

Kind regards

Branden Botha

Hi All,

Is it possible to implement the functionality for Windows Store App "Always on Top"? If yes, then how can it be done?

I am using Visual Studio 2015 SDK for Apps Development. Please let me know ASAP since I am in a harry and held up with this functionality so that it enables me to publish my App on to Windows PC Apps Store once this functionality is added...

Thanks a lot in advance.

Thanks

Srinivas.

Session State for Web farms in .NET and IIS

$

We have a web server farm running Win2k12 R2 IIS 8.

We currently use SQL to store session state, but would like to use a better alternative to improve performance and support clustering to avoid a single point of failure.

We have been looking into using session state servers, however other blog posting I’ve read suggest the ASP.Net State Service is not cluster aware.

Are there any viable workarounds for this or another solution?

Thanks!

Microsoft .NET Framework Assistant 1.3.1 addon for Mozilla Firefox (signed)

Hi,

since .NET 3.5 Microsoft provided a firefox addon called 'Microsoft .NET Framework Assistant 1.3.1' (MNFA) via .NET installer and addons.mozilla.org (AMO). It added clickonce support to Firefox.

Since Firefox v45.0.x it requires addons to be signed, so the MNFA was removed from the AMO. I found a german website (http://www.computerbild.de/download/Microsoft-.NET-Framework-Assistant-fuer-Firefox-8588198.html) which offers a version 1.3.1.1 of the MNFA which is signed. They claim the originator of 1.3.1.1 is Microsoft. I tried that addon and it works fine.

Sadly my company doesn't trust that source and requires a Microsoft website providing that version.

Does anyone know of such site?

Does anyone know if and when Microsoft will sign and provide its own MNFA?

Do I completely miss something in this matter?

Best regards
Marc

System.Web.Http v5.0.0.0.

I am using Visual Studio 2010 with .Net 4.0. I would like to build an API and all the tutorial and instructions I've found reference the System.Web.Http v5.0.0.0. or higher. I can't use the NuGet Package Manager as it attempts to download a version of this reference that is not available to Visual Studio 2010. I can't upgrade to Visual Studio 2012 as it is not supported by my client. Is there a way to get the upgrade from v4.0.0.0. to v5.0.0.0.? Thanks for your assistance.

Net Framework errors

If this question isn't correct for this forum, please tell me where to post it.

I keep getting this error message on a Dell Laptop with Windows 7 Home Premium:

Please set registry key HKLM\Software\Microsoft\.NetFramework\Installroot to point to the .NET Framework install location.

I have tried the .NetFramework repair tool to no avail.

I have tried dotnetfx clean up tool and reinstalling .Net Framework to no avail.

The installation says the .Net program has install successfully, but the netfx setup verifier says they are not.

Can someone please tell me how to get this fixed?

We recently upgraded to Windows 10 on our PC. Since then, at start up, we receive an error message that Microsoft .NET Framework Version 2.0 did not upload during the upgrade and we need to download it. I've seen other suggestions going to the Program Files and making sure 3.5 is enabled and did that, but after the restart, I still get that message. What am I supposed to do?  Which version do I download?  I see quite a few.

Installing .NET 4.6.1 SDK does not update DotNetSdk/NETFX folders in MSBuild properties or Visual Studio macros

$

I am building C++ projects in Visual Studio 2015, and at one point I thought about checking out my environment macros, even though my projects are working properly.  I realized that all VC++ directories that refered to the NETFXSDK were pointing to the incorrect version.  I have .NET 4.6.1 installed on my system, but they all point to v4.6.

$(DotNetSdkRoot) = C:\Program Files (x86)\Windows Kits\NETFXSDK\4.6

I have 4.6.1 installed.  And in turn many macros pointing to sub-folders from this location are incorrect as well.

$(SDK40ToolsPath) = C:\Program Files (x86)\Windows SDKs\Windows\v10.0A\bin\NETFX 4.6 Tools

Again, I have a folder named "NETFX 4.6.1 Tools"

Every WindowsSDK_Library or WindowsSDK_Include macro point to a location under C:\Program Files (x86)\Windows Kits\NETFXSDK\4.6, where it should be 4.6.1.

Etc...

I have set the <TargetFrameworkVersion> to 4.6.1 in my project properties, and even though my projects work fine, I still feel that the incorrect include and library files are used when I build them, based on what I've seen in the macros.

When I tried to find out how that could have happened, I noticed in my file system that all folder locations for 4.6.1 were installed about 2 hours before the corresponding folder locations for version 4.6.  So I thought "Fine, I must have installed something like SDK 10 AFTER .NET 4.6.1 so all the settings were last updated to point to 4.6"...  So I proceeded to uninstall .NET 4.6.1, rebooted, then re-installed...

No change!  All Visual Studio macros are STILL pointing to .NET 4.6 folders.  MSBuild's Microsoft.Cpp.Common.props still sets the default <FrameworkVersion> at 4.6 and not 4.6.1.

I mean, sure, it would be easy to change the props file manually.  But I feel that I shouldn't have to.  I don't think that this has been an encouraged approach.  So, have I missed something, or is there an issue with the .NET 4.6.1 Developer Pack's installer?

NuGet Serious Bug, for missing assemblies/references!!!!! CS0012

It started off I was following a tutorial until I hit frame 18:14.  config.UseSqlServer was throwing this error:

"CS0012 C# The type 'DbContextOptionsBuilder' is defined in an assembly that is not referenced. You must add a reference to assembly 'EntityFramework.Core, Version=7.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=null'."

So, In installed EntityFramework.Core as it asked and didn't think much about what it wasn't just giving me the little light bulb to quickly do it anyway.  After that, the problem was fixed, right? NOOOOOOOO, still had the same stinken error. :|  Digged through the metadata, uninstalled, reinstall, uninstall NuGet, reinstall NuGet, added other EntityFramework packages, read more articles..... until I finally foundthis I got this idea, what if I uninstall all the NuGet packages and let intellisense install all the NuGet packages for me. It worked; here the whole time the NuGet packages were just not installing correctly for some odd reason.

I am using my Bing searches in hopes you will find this post to save you allot of time. (18 hours for me.)
- CS0012 C# The type 'DbContextOptionsBuilder' is defined in an assembly that is not referenced. You must add a reference to assembly 'EntityFramework.Core, Version=7.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=null'.

.NET framework reinstall

I've been having problem with both Windows Updates and SQL Server Management Studio, and it appear that the problems with both were caused by some problem in the .NET framework I decided to remove and reinstall the framework. I uninstalled .NET Framework 4.5.1 and a Multi-Tarketing Pack for .NET Framework 4.  Then I downloaded the current version of the .NET Framework from Microsoft and attempted to install it.  I got the following error message:  ".NET Framework 4.6 has not been installed because: The storage control block address is invalid."

Following are portions of the log file (it is quite lengthy).  How can I fix this?

.NET 4.6.1 on Windows Vista

According to this https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb822049(v=vs.110).aspx .NET 4.6 is supported on Windows Vista but 4.6.1 is not.  I've done some testing and was able to install the 4.6.1 framework on a Vista x64 VM and run a WinForms app compiled for 4.6.1 without issue.  Is there a reason Vista is not listed as supported for 4.6.1?

.Net Framework 4 Reinstallation Failure

Background

I had .Net framework 4.5 Developer Preview installed and tried to install ASP.Net MVC 4 Beta. It complained about .Net 4.5 so I uninstalled it and was able to install MVC 4 Beta successfully. When I created a sample project in MVC 4 Beta, I got a runtime error.

Then I tried another normal Web project based on .Net 4 and still got the same error. Upon researching, it appeared that my .Net 4 installation was corrupted. I followed the following steps to get it re-installed.

  1. I deleted the %temp% folder
  2. I downloaded the full  version of .Net 4
  3. I disabled my anti-virus
  4. I completely removed .Net 4 using http://blogs.msdn.com/b/astebner/archive/2008/08/28/8904493.aspx
  5. When I reinstall .Net 4 under the Admin account, I get the following error message

I really hope I do not have to reformat my machine.

Update: I collected my logs using the Collect.exe tool and have published it here:https://skydrive.live.com/redir.aspx?cid=94da931478bade0d&resid=94DA931478BADE0D!1424&parid=94DA931478BADE0D!1423
