Installing older versions of IIS

Is it possible to install older versions of .NET/IIS on a machine?

I have a situation where somebody wants to upgrade a Windows Server 2003 that has .NET 1.1 and 2.0 installed to Server 2012, but the applications on it are very much geared to those older versions. I need to know if we are going to have an application issue based on this upgrade.

Basically, we are not in a position to upgrade the apps to a later version of .NET yet, so I need to know can I install an older version of .NET to account for this.

Also, does it mean that we would need to install an older version of IIS as well? I'm assuming we would need to match the older version of .NET with an older version of IIS.

Thanks!
